Celebrate the flavors of autumn with this unique cocktail.
Pears are the perfect alternative to apples when it comes to autumnal fruit, and a great way to enjoy their flavor all year round is by reducing it to a simple syrup. There are tons of ways to enjoy pear simple syrup: on top of ice cream, in place of (or in addition to) maple syrup on pancakes, drizzled on top cakes and pies.
But one treat that's perfect for your next party is this autumn pear cocktail recipe. Topped off with a sprig of rosemary, it's a great way to celebrate the full tastes of autumn.
Cocktail:
2 parts bourbon (or dark rum)
1 part pear simple syrup
1 part lime juice
Soda water
Black chestnut bitters
Sprig of rosemary
Combine bourbon, syrup, and lime juice in a cocktail shaker. Shake until well mixed.
Pour into martini glasses, and add bitters to taste. Garnish with a spring of rosemary.
Simple Syrup
2 parts pear juice
1 part sugar
1 part water
Combine juice, sugar, and water in a pot.
Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
Reduce heat, and simmer until thickened to half volume, or desired thickness.
Notes:
Turn off the heat when the syrup is slightly thinner than you want. It will thicken as it cools.Use brown sugar for a richer fall flavor—I used half white, half brown.
