Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. I like the break from the sweltering summer sun before winter hits. I see it as a transition into winter and my decor reflects that. On brisk fall days, little by little, I tweak my home to increase the cozy factor in preparation for colder nights. Here are a few quick and easy ideas for cozying up your bedroom.
In summer, I'm all about white bedding. But in the fall I like to mix things up a bit with patterned bedding. Somehow it makes climbing into bed on colder nights less depressing. Try a duvet set in a larger pattern mixed with a sheet set in a smaller pattern. Use a solid woven blanket in between the two for visual relief then add a throw pillow with great texture, color, or detailing. Bringing in a warm wool throw blanket is a good idea, too. Try tossing one onto the foot of the bed or draping one over an existing headboard.
In my opinion, the best thing you can do for your bedroom in the fall is make sure you have adequate lighting. It will help lift your mood when the sun starts setting earlier and rising later. Try flanking the bed with table lamps or sconces to keep things bright.
Don't forget about nightstand accessories! Place green or dried clippings from the yard in bedside vases to bring some life into the room. Also, I like to have a fragrant candle burning on my nightstand when I read in bed on chilly evenings. There are so many exotic fragrances available these days, but a vanilla bean soy candle is my standby. It gives off a warm glow and fills the room with a comforting aroma.
Finally, try layering a small sheepskin rug on top of a larger area rug bedside for added softness and warmth. Your piggies will thank you! The cure for cold and dark nights is a well-lit cozy and inviting bedroom. Start prepping yours now.
